At the end of February, 1,770,355 self-employed individuals were registered in the Commercial Register. This was 1,600 more than a month earlier, indicating that the decline in the number of self-employed individuals in recent months appears to have halted.
A decline is particularly noticeable in the healthcare (– 1,750) and construction (-280) sectors. A major cause is likely the stricter controls implemented by the Tax Authorities on bogus self-employment. As a self-employed person, you are not allowed to be hired and then work as if you were an employee.
However, other sectors are seeing an increase in the number of self-employed individuals, particularly in ICT and sectors such as: culture, sports, accountancy, consultancy, or administration. In total, these sectors alone saw an increase of 1,300 self-employed individuals.
However, so-called "dormant" self-employed individuals must be taken into account. They maintain their registration in the Commercial Register but no longer carry out assignments.
