What is the difference between a mailing address and a correspondence address?

A correspondence address is often used to register with the municipality, allowing you to receive important mail if you don't have a permanent residential address. A correspondence address is exclusively for private individuals. A mailing address does not have these restrictions and can be used by anyone.

What is a mailing address?

A mailing address is ideally suited as a business mailing address or business postbox. It is therefore very suitable for businesses, such as freelancers, who do not want to make their private address public.

But it is also an excellent solution for private individuals who, for example, are staying abroad for a longer period or no longer want to receive their mail at their old residential address due to a divorce. However, with a mailing address, you cannot register with the Municipal Personal Records Database. This is only possible with a correspondence address.

What is a correspondence address?

A correspondence address is intended for private individuals who need to register with the municipality but do not have a fixed residential address. To prevent them from not receiving important mail without a residential address, private individuals can apply for a correspondence address from an institution designated by the municipality for this purpose. With a correspondence address, private individuals can also register in the Municipal Personal Records Database (BRP).

The Personal Records Database (BRP) contains personal data of residents of the Netherlands (residents) and of persons who have left the Netherlands (non-residents).
